Interior Design – What does your home say about you?
February 19, 2014
If a stranger walked into your home without knowing you or anything about you, what would they see? Do you have books, magazines, shoes, clothes, and other items scattered about? Or is does everything have its place? Our homes are not only a reflection of the way we live; they can be an extension of our personality. Your house is your home base where you can feel comfortable and recharge. Much like our clothes and appearance, your home and its décor can reveal a lot about who you and your family are as well as how you live. A cluttered, messy home may communicate that you’re busy, disorganized, or perhaps going through a transition or tough time. A well-organized room says that you stay on the ball. Think about these three aspects of your home and think whether or not they are sending the personalized message you desire.
Wall color
Bright, vivid colors can bring a lot of energy to a room. Perhaps you’re always on the go and like a cheery room to wake you up. Soft, cool tones are very calming. Neutral tones are functional may reflect that you’re practical. Real Simple has a nice slideshow about what your paint color says about you.
Decorations & Accessories
Do you have a lot of pictures of family on the walls? Perhaps photos of your latest travel adventure? Are there big bookcases? Your accessories help reflect what you value – family, adventure, intelligence, etc.
Cleanliness
You’re home doesn’t have to be spotless all the time. Sometimes items aren’t where they belong, but we’re human. But, would your guests feel comfortable eating off your plates or using your bathroom? Remember, cleaning a little bit every day or two will help curb overwhelming messes and keep your home fresh.
If you’re not happy with the way your home looks, change it! There’s always room for personalization; your home is unique just like you!
